Vaults
In the state of Louisiana, there is no mandatory requirement for a burial container for ground burials. However, it is important to note that the majority of cemeteries do insist on the use of an outer burial container for reasons such as ensuring longevity, facilitating grave maintenance, and providing support against the weight of the soil.
The most commonly chosen outer burial containers are vaults. Vaults are protective containers designed to safeguard the remains from outside elements. Alternatively, there are other options, such as grave boxes or liners, which can meet cemetery requirements. It's worth noting that in certain parishes, placing vaults above ground is no longer permitted.
